A man returning, poem after poem, to the same pair of eyes.
Some people leave memories behind. Some leave photographs. And then there are those who leave behind a pair of eyes—and somehow, you spend the rest of your life finding your way back to them.\n\nAt the centre of every poem are her eyes. Not simply as something beautiful to look at, but as a place to return to. A universe. A home. A question.\n\nWritten in both English and Hindi, the collection shifts between languages the way the heart shifts between thoughts—sometimes needing the softness of Hindi, sometimes the silence of English, and sometimes neither language being enough.
“If heaven ever asked me what I wanted after life,
I would not ask for wings, nor eternity, nor a place among the stars.
I would ask for her eyes—because what is heaven if those eyes are not there?”
Selected Excerpts
Written in both English and Hindi, shifting between languages the way the heart shifts between thoughts—sometimes needing the softness of Hindi, sometimes the silence of English.
There are 2 kinds of mornings— the ones that simply arrive, and the ones that leave something behind. Yours was the second. Perhaps the sky took 1 extra breath before letting the sunlight in. Perhaps the wind stayed 1 moment longer at the window. I like to imagine the world was quietly preparing for someone it had never met before.
If I ever had to choose between life and your eyes, I would choose your eyes. Because life is only something I am given to live, but your eyes— they are the reason I would want to.
I wonder if you know what your eyes do to me. They make ordinary evenings feel like something worth remembering. They make silence sound like a conversation. And somehow, every time I look away, I find myself returning.
“For the girl whose eyes became a universe, and for the one who kept looking.”
